Divers and people who want to snorkel come to Playa del Carmen to enjoy the great waters and excellent diving conditions. Scuba diving is plentiful, though the reefs are off the shore and require boat to get to. All hotels have a dive shop, though some can be found in the city itself. Better open-water scuba diving can generally be found in Cozumel via the ferry. Several dive shops in Playa del Carmen do offer cavern diving about an hour inland, which cannot be found in Cozumel. Other Water Sports Surf, moto sky and Kayak rental are the two other main activities people enjoy during a visit to Playa del Carmen. Aviario Xaman-Há If you want to have direct contact with the nature, Aviario Xaman-Ha (View Spot / View Map) is an excellent place. The animals are free and you can see several birds species with beautiful colours, just as another animals from the region. This place has protected animals because they are endemic or threatened species. Golf course In a beautiful area named Playacar and recognized as one of the top golf courses in the World, the Playacar Spa & Golf Club (View Map). This magnificent golf course, par 72 with a distance of 7,144 yards is considered the most challenging course in the region. A Robert Von Hagge designed 18-hole championship golf corse. Commercial Malls Playa has different malls that offer boutiques, jewerlies, stores and restaurants. The most important are: Paseo del Carmen (View Map), Plaza Playacar (View Map) that has a bank, Plaza Pelícanos (View Map) that has 3 movie theaters, Centro Maya (View Map) that has 8 movie theaters (MMCinemas), a big autoservice market named Soriana (View Map), banks and several shops. La Gran Plaza (View Map) with 8 movie theaters (Cinépolis) and many other shops. Nightlife It is definitely happening in Playa del Carmen, but is not as wild as its neighbor to the north, Cancun. Typically, Playa's shops and restaurants close around 10pm, but nearly all of the clubs stay open through most of the night. A number of the best nightclubs are located on the beach. If you are interested in nightlife (dancing, drinks late until the evening/morning), then be sure to visit Blue Parrot (View Map), Diablito Cha Cha Cha (View Map), La Santanera (View Map), and Hotel Deseo (View Spot / View Map). The Blue Parrot had until recently a fun fire show around 9 PM some nights, but still offers beach dancing, swings at the bar, and plenty of dancing. Santanera has a beautiful roofdeck bar.
